Artist Feature – Christoph Liebentritt

When Christoph Liebentritt told us that the pictures that he took of the Austrian Band Farewell Dear Ghost were being used as their record artwork and concert poster, we were more than excited. Why? Because they were shot with our Kolor film. And they’re excellent of course, since Christoph is a fantastic photographer. We didn’t want to miss the opportunity to ask him more about his work as a photographer.

Where are you from, how old are you?

Hello, my name is Christoph Liebentritt, I am 30 years old and I originally come from a small town in Lower Austria. But I have been living and working in Vienna now for more than 11 years.

Would you care to tell us a bit about yourself and how you came to be a photographer?

I could now write a lot about my love for the visual, about the attempt to catch people and moments or about the creative process or similar things. The truth of the matter is that photography entered my life as a hobby and gradually grew into something very significant. Now I work quintessentially as a photographer full time. A rather pragmatic approach in which my degree in Social Studies became  irrelevant.

Do you professionally work as a photographer?

Yes, I do, and at the moment I can’t actually see myself doing anything else in the future.

Why do you like to take analog pictures? Do you shoot digital as well?

For my daily work, I do take a lot of digital pictures because of financial and logistical reasons and because of time. However, my heart really beats for analogue photography. I love the smell, the texture of the films and the slow pace when working in an analogue way. With free projects and when I travel I exclusively take analogue pictures. I am particularly happy to have only recently delivered my first analogue advertising campaign!

Do you have a favorite subject to photograph? If so, why?

I like doing photo reportage best. It’s incredibly exciting to immerse yourself in a world you normally would be excluded from, if only for a certain period of time. The range is as huge as it is fascinating. From a juvenile prison, the State Opera Ballet to a SM-studio or a cemetery for pets.

What’s your favorite analog camera?

At the moment, my favourite is the Contax G2 for 35 mm. For the middle format I like using the Mamiya 645afd ii

Do you have a favorite revolog film?

Yes, I have, my favourite film is definitely “Kolor”.

Do you have any future projects you’d like to talk about?

Fortunately, there are always projects going through my mind that keep me busy. A lot of them become real, some of them have to go. Interested? Well, then stay in touch!
