We absolutely adored the Kosmos photograph that Jeanne André entered into our calendar contest. If you want to know which favorite photo subject she shares with us, read on!
Where are you from, how old are you?
Hi ! I’m Jeanne and I’m from Bretagne in France but currently living in Paris !
Would you like to tell us a bit about yourself and how you came to be a photographer?
I’m mostly carefree and I like to do my own stuff, I got into analog through my brother-in-law, Lomig Perrotin, Film washi‘s boss. He gave me a lot of tips, films and gears to try and play around.
Do you professionally work as a photographer?
No, I don’t and I like it that way, I like being free. I have my day job that I love and I take pictures for me on the side.
Why do you like to take analog pictures? Do you shoot digital as well?
I like analog because it’s kinda radical, there’s a limited amount of pictures on a film, you have to choose and finish a roll before starting another one. I like the discipline of it. And the surprise aspect too ! You have to wait to see if the shot was good.
I shoot digital too with my phone camera but it’s mostly utilitarian.
Do you have a favorite subject to photograph? If so, why?
Cats ! And animals. And architecture. Somebody told me once I should be a cat potraitist. I just love them.
What’s your favorite analog camera?
My Olympus Om-2 ! A gift from Lomig. I love it.
Do you have a favorite revolog film?
I’d say Snovlox, but I love Kosmos too !
What’s the story behind your revolog calendar photo?
I was in Egypt to see my brother and I knew I wanted to try Kosmos with the Pyramids.
Any advice for other aspiring photographers?
Try a lot.
Black and white can be difficult.
And never take pictures because you HAVE to.
Do you have any future projects you’d like to talk about?
Currently I’m testing a lot of films, so no ! I’ll see what’s coming my way.
Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions, Jeanne! We love to take cat pictures too, by the way 🙂
